Guest Conductor Karina Canellakis makes her Phoenix Symphony debut in an imaginative, impressionistic program sure to make a splash. Debussy, Britten and Sibelius contribute works that capture the many moods of the sea, with its sun-drenched waves and watery depths. Pianist Stewart Goodyear, proclaimed “a phenomenon” by The Los Angeles Times, returns to Symphony Hall in the sensuous “Egyptian” Piano Concerto of French composer Camille Saint-Saëns, who reportedly wrote this dazzling work after a boat ride up the Nile.

Mozart: Symphony No. 36, “Linz”
R. Strauss: Alpine Symphony TSO PREMIERE

Celebrate spring by climbing an Alpine mountain! It takes over 100 musicians to perform Richard Strauss’ massive, theatrical Alpine Symphony, a gorgeously colored, consistently engaging musical travelogue of a dawn-to-dusk journey up a mountain. A lifelong avid outdoorsman, the work was inspired by the composer’s own experience as a youngster climbing mountains in the Alps. The program’s opening work will be announced later.

Complimentary “Concert Comments” with the conductor and guest artist take place one hour before the performance and give you insight into what you’re about to hear.
